Lost Time Can't Be Regained

Summer has begun and i've started doing exactly what most people do the opposite of when summer comes around, and that's waking up early. My sleeping habits aren't the best, and my body usually ends up paying for it, therefore in my attempt to regain lost sleeping time, my pattern would be to sleep in late and wake up late, and that started an unhealthy and unproductive cycle...well for me at least.

Ever since exam time, where i would wake up early and put in some last minute cramming, i've been waking up early every since =)
While recently thinking back on all the time i've wasted while I could have been up doing productive things, made me realize that that time is gone and it can never be regained. Sure if you go to sleep late you can get more things done, and some people just function better at night....but in terms of waking up, those late sleepers usually wake up when nearly half the day is done.

Since i've been waking up early, I have been feeling better all round. Firstly, its soo peaceful outside while everyone is sleeping, and the wind blowing during those early hours is like none other. It's also a platform for thinking through situations or just having some alone time....unless you have parents or other persons in your household who are up like the crack of dawn. I think the biggest benefit of waking early for me is that I'm not rushed for time. After i'm done mucking around and finally ready to start getting a move on things that need to be done during the day, its still early out =)...suddenly days seem longer, even though its a standard of 24 hrs in a day.

Lost time can't be regained... not only can it be used to refer to the time people lose while sleeping in late while the world goes on around them. It also serves as food for thought...what if you had the time to tell someone something important but you didn't take up the opportunity and now they are out of your life forever? What if you spent those hrs of procrastination, doing the paper that you had to hand in the next day? What if you planned to hang out with a friend you've been neglecting recently and they've basically signed off on your friendship?
Those were just some thoughts that came to mind.

As the saying goes.."don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today"
I urge all of you, to indeed live and breathe each moment like it's your last. It's better to be on top of time than trying to regain lost time because you just may not get the chance =)

One of my fav entries :) Early mornings can be really calm and relaxing. I use to take walks around my old neighborhood and I always loved the entire quiet atmosphere , the birds and dew all around . All that sounds lame but if you do it one day you'll see what im rambling about ;) .

Think im going to try and get back into the waking up early now!

That's an excellent pst Neesh! It's all quite true really. People try to "regain time" or "make up for lost time" but time is relative and only moves in one direction. Once it's lost, it's lost and there's no way for you to go back and "make up" for what you couldn't do.

When I wake up earlier, somehow, my days are much longer and I accomplish so much more than when I wake up later and half the day is gone.

Early sleeping habits are much healthier. Circadian rhythm is important to keep balanced. Just think about the effects of Jet Lag. Crossing time zones disrupts your rhythm and your body just doesn't feel as full as energy as it should.

My, what a long comment I left for ya =P

Hey u guys, thnx for the kudos for my post. It was my first post and i was a little bit nervous. Both of u guys write excellent posts, i always enjoy reading them =)... i learn from the best *wink*... hey, i think i'm really going to like this blogging thing... its a really good medium to just vent or talk about issues. OoO n Danny, i know exactly what you are talking about, i used to do the exact same thing, and Amy, i can totally testify about waking up early, and the days feel much longer, and accomplishing more. And yea, i was reading about the importance of sleep, and its really important, before i was taking it for granted, but never again! =)

Oh my! Well aren't you quite the flatterer Neesh! Thanks for such a wonderful compliment =] Inspires me to keep up the blogging ^_^

Blogging is fun, no? Only if you really have the heart for it. I had tried doing blogs in the past because I was curious about it but they never worked...like the whole writing in a journal thing. Never worked. But now it does and it's because I was actually interested in doing one for myself rather than for other people and I have so much fun doing it.

Well.....wonderful post Neesh, and I agree that when you start you're day earlier, it does feel longer and you do get more done. However, I lost a good few hours of rest during this past semester due to studying etc and still had to get up pretty earlier but i would end up feeling sluggish throughout my day. My dad asks me often why do i don't like going to be early, if I'm afraid I'll miss something interesting when I'm sleeping.

Sleeping late to get up early and decrease resting time is usually not healthy for long periods of time. In my opinion nothing interesting happens at night that I can't find out about the next day unless it's out. And I don't go out so I never feel like I miss out on anything. I get a good night's rest and feel great in the morning. What could possibly beat that?

I have a friend who hardly slept during the entire week we had exams and she was always tired but it hit her pretty hard when the weekend came. sleep is and has always been essential for the body to recuperate from its daily activities.

i kno right? I have a friend who did the same thing.. not putting in the no. of hrs of sleep that he should have, and when weekend hit... he crashed...hardd! And even though he slept for long periods, he still didn't feel refreshed as you should when you wake up from sleeping
